part 2: CANADA

INTRODUCTION

After the USA, we had planned to go to Canada and play a festival and then tour to Toronto where our flight to europe departed from. However, the festival didn't accept us so we had to hastily make a plan B. This involved the long and expensive voyage to New Foundland. Here are the Data Sets and Stats from our 21 day, 11 show Canadian Tour.

QUICK STATS

days on tour: 21
number of shows played: 11
income: $1662 ($186 from community over capitalism t-shirts and $1435 from door deals)
This means we make on average $151.11/ show

TRANSPORT

litres of gas purchased: 907.30
Canadian dollars spent on gas: $ 1332.50
average price of gas: 1.359$/L

EXPENSES

Gas: $1332.50
Ferries and Tolls: $385.72
Van Repairs: $98.00
Total: $1863.22

These are our exact group expenses. We had to pay an unfortunate amount for gas and boats because canada is vast.

INCOME

100% of the shows were booked through friends. A benefit to touring your home country. We divided the data into one set to show the relationship between the different types of venues.

WHAT TYPE OF SHOW IT WAS

a. bar show 19+ $1087 (5 shows) = $217.40/ show
b. house show (all ages)  $332 (4 shows) = $83.00/ show
c. Venue/gallery/cafe (all ages)  $243 (2 shows) = $121.50/ show

The data set is slightly skewed by a large guarantee of $500 dollars for one bar show. But even when excluding that from the data set. Our Bar shows in Canada we still most profitable.

Best Door Nights, Merch Nights and Overall Night:

1. Nellies, St John's NFLD, $535 (500 door and 20 Merch) 19+ Bar
2. The Ship, St John's, $270 (230 door and 40 Merch) 19+ Bar
3. The Log Cabin, St John's, $170 (150 door and 20 Merch) House Show

Our three St John's shows were the most profitable for the door money and the merch money.

CONCLUSION

Our canadian tour was relatively successful. For the lack of shows, set ferry costs, higher price of gas and the distances we had to drive between shows, we are impressed with our income versus expenses. We left the country with a loss of $201.
